Hi, I'm trying to add a zinc supplement to Food Wizard. It let me add it, but the only option that comes up in balancer is 100 grams. The capsules are 30 mg potency, and per Raw Food and Nerdy, my dog needs 16 mg daily. I couldn't find pill or capsule in the amount, so I chose "unit". That did not work, as when I selected it as a food, the balancer did not change the zinc in the diet. My recipe is at 67% zinc and I'm trying to increase it.

ANOTHER issue: When I select Zinc Chelate as an ingredient, it sends Copper through the roof. Why is it reading zinc as copper?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Mama Joy,

Can you provide a link to the product you are trying to enter? Can you also provide a screenshot of the supplement you entered into the Foods database?

I can now get the Zinc in the ingredient, but the lowest amount I can choose is .01 gram. Isn't a milligram .001 of a gram? However, it seems that .01 reaches the desired amount in the recipe. But how do I find out how much .01 gram is with a 30 mg capsule. Doesn't seem right.

I think I must have selected copper as the mineral when adding the zinc supplement the first time. I added it again and it doesn't alter the copper now.

Hi Mama Joy,

First, I don't know how much zinc your dog needs because I don't know anything about your dog. Please tell me how much your dog needs by hovering your mouse over the Microminerals bar graph on the right. You will get 3 values. Give me the 'Trace Mineral' value and the 'Recommended Allowance' value.

Next, go the Foods module and search for your food. Look at the Zinc value and tell me how much it is.

Thanks in advance.

Zinc Trace mineral is 12.579269, RA is 15.925

In foods it shows 10000 MG for the Zinc supplement I added to Food Wizard.

When I add it to the recipe, it comes up as 100 grams and boosts the trace mineral to 100012.579.
Maybe this supplement is too strong and hard to use. What would be a food I could use to get up to 15.925?

Thanks, Joy

Hi Joy,

Please change the amount from 100 grams to 1 gram or .5 gram.

Hi Joy,

It looks as if you entered it incorrectly into the Food Wizard. In the Food Database, it should read closer to 6000 mg of Zinc per 100 grams of product.

Delete that supplement from all recipes and then delete the supplement from the Foods database.

Enter the following into the Food Wizard:

1 capsule = 0.5 grams
Food Name = Nature's Way Zinc Chelate (30 mg)
Food Energy = 0 kcal
Ash = 0.5 grams
Zinc = 30 mg

Alternatively, you can try canned mussels for Zinc.

Please go through our video tutorials which teach you everything you need to know about balancing for a life stage:

There are 4 fields to enter on first screen of Food Wizard; Amount, Measure, Measure Weight and then Gram. I put in 1 for amount, capsule for measure and .5 for measure weight. It will not save it, so what I am doing wrong on that screen?

Thanks for all your help!
