Sardines are rich in protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals. They contain concentrated sources of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA). Sardines are inexpensive, sustainable, and contain low levels of mercury and PCBs. Packed full of minerals, such as calcium, copper, iodine, and selenium, sardines are a superfood for your dogs and cats.
Note that this tutorial is meant to be for teaching and example purpose to show you how to be able to add the same or similar type product. It is based on a product that was available at the time of publication. Sometimes manufacturers/distributors of these products alter their formulation. It is up to the user to determine if the product they are entering into the database is the same as the data provided in this tutorial. Compare the nutrient label from the product to the one posted in this article. If it is exactly the same then you can confidently use the nutrient values in this tutorial. If the values differ, then you probably need to perform additional calculations.
Storage
Canned sardines can be stored at room temperature. Even though canned sardines have a long storage life, it is best to check the expiration date. Turning the can every once in awhile helps ensure that all parts of the sardines are exposed to the liquid in which they are packed. Refrigerate unused portions of opened sardine cans.
