Hi, could I get some help with entering this product into the food wizard please

https://solgar.co.uk/products/solgar-natural-source-liquid-vitamin-e-59-2-ml?_pos=1&_sid=0d7d56e4e&_ss=r

I have an email from solgar who say

"There should be a mark on the dropper to show 0.5ml, which provides the 150iu. It is usually about half way up the dropper"

I'm very confused.

Since 0.5 ml of this product (main substrate is safflower oil and oil is lighter than water) is equivalent to 0.461 g by weight, enter the following into the Food Wizard.

Step 1 - Add Common Measure
-----------------------------
0.5 ml = 0.461 g

Step 2 - Food Name
-------------------------------
Name = Solgar Liquid Vitamin E (with dropper) (2 Fl Oz)

Step 3 - Macronutrients
-------------------------------
Food Energy = 3.688 kcal
Total Fat = 0.461 g

Step 7 - Vitamins
-------------------------------
Vitamin E = 100 mg

PRESS SAVE AND CLOSE ON THE FOOD WIZARD RIBBON TO ENTER ABOVE INTO THE DATABASE.

Next, in the FOODS module search for "solgar" and then double click the newly entered supplement.

See image below for the final result. You can now work with grams and milliliters of this product.

Ali, there is not enough info on this product to enter into PDD Beta. The serving size is not clear.

Thank you Frank I've done that (I think) but it's showing a really high value for vitamin e and I'm sure it can't be correct. See below

Hi Ali. There is nothing wrong with your recipe. The Vitamin E was entered correctly. I am attaching a test recipe showing Solgar Vitamin E. Look at the graph at the right. I am hovering the mouse over the Vitamin E bar. Here you can see that the recommended allowance for Spot is 9.3 mg, but the serving size gives 99.7 mg, which is more than 10x (1000+ %) the needed amount. So you would have to lower the dosage for George.

Thanks Frank, I'd got myself mixed up with that one. Fortunately I've not yet started using it for George . I'm still a little bit confused though as when you enter it in the recipe the drop down says 0.5 ml but the entry say 1ml, does it mean 1 x 0.5 ml and is there a clearer way of showing it?

Hi Ali. The drop down is showing the original amounts entered for the food/supplement. So even though it shows 0.5 you only need to know that it is in milliliters. So ignore the 0.5 because it really depends on the amount you enter in the ingredient list. For the new products it will just show the unit of measure (millilitres, grams, ounces, etc).

Having said that, you would be better off using a combination of eggs and cod liver oil to meet your Vitamin D targets.

That may be true but the blighters won't touch cod liver oil or eggs :D . Just to confirm then if I enter one it will be one mg? (not that I would enter 1).

If you enter 1 in the ingredient list and the unit of measure is millilitres, then you are entering 1 ml.
